Well I succesfully got EMC 2.3.4 working and controlling a single axis today. I have it hooked up to my 24" linear slide with a DC motor and AMC Amplifier. After getting the PID settings tuned properly it works like a charm.

I am extreamly impressed with EMC2 it is exactly what I was writing on my own except much further down the development trail. I am going to spend some time over the next little while and write up an interface so I can ditch my realtime PID system I used on my automated drill and use EMC as the backend. This should be fairly simple... I wish I knew what EMC was capable of before.

I must say though I am very dissapointed with the speed the gui runs at when the realtime threads are processing, wish I knew this before, I would have bought something a little faster.. I found a Intel Atom 330 Dual Core Mini-Itx PC on LogicSupply.com I think I will purchase along with 3 cards from MesaNet....

7I43 - 48 I/O USB/EPP Controller $89
7I33-TA - Quad Analog Interface $79
7I37-TA - 16 Inputs, 8 Outputs $79

http://www.logicsupply.com/products/atom_5677 $240

I think this would make a great, cost efffective 4 axis CNC controller.... Of course you still have to buy the drives but luckly I tend to find them pretty easy..
